Grand Ocean Hotel

rpa:architecture enjoys a long standing relationship with Explore Living working on this 3 year project with them since planning approval was granted in 2006. The post planning appointment included adaptation to suit the planning conditions, construction drawings and the position of site architect.

The redevelopment and conversion of this beautiful 1920s art deco building drew on the technical skills and experience across the rpa:architecture team. The historic value of the former Butlins Hotel has been restored sympathetically with the Grade II listed Grand Ballroom adding unique features to some of the 289 homes expected on the development.

Materials specification took into consideration the steeply sloping coastal site as well as the need for a sympathetic new build expansion attached to the main listed building.
